Ryan denied headbutting his girlfriend and said she kicked him in the head.

The ex-Manchester United star and Wales manager is accused of using controlling and coercive behavior.

The common assault of her younger sister, Emma Greville, was also charged.

He has been giving evidence in his defense.

A row broke out after Ms Greville found messages on the iPad of other women.

The court heard that she left the hotel where they were going to stay to go back to her house.

He said he found the dog's crate in the open boot of his car when he arrived.

He said they were attempting to take Mac.

He was asked if he was aggressive with them.

When he wanted to call the police, he could not locate his phone. She denied that she had it.

He said they tussled over her phone as they slipped on bags on the floor.

He said that Ms Greville was on her back and he was on top of her.

She was kicking him, he said.

He said he was protecting his head and after a few kicks he got up and left.

He told the court that he didn't know that Emma was at his house.

He said that he put Kate Greville's phone in the same back pocket as he put his phone in his pocket.

She was trying to get her phone back when the couple wrestled in the kitchen.

He was asked why he didn't let her go. She took his earlier, so it was "tit for tat", he said.

The couple moved around the kitchen island and Ms Greville grabbed for his wrist of the hand that was in the back pocket of his phone.

He said that it was a tug or war and we clashed heads.

He was asked if she accused him of something.

Mr Giggs said that he hit her and headbutted her.

He was asked if he deliberately headbutted her in the face.

The court was told that Ms Greville moved into his house during the first coronaviruses.

The daughter and her boyfriend were there most of the time.

Mr Giggs said that it was a happy time and that they would bicker but had no arguments.

The dishwasher would usually be on three to four cycles a day due to the number of people in the house, according to Mr Giggs.

He said he would open the dishwasher in the wrong way.

It would wind me up because I would have to do it again, so I called a team meeting and asked everyone to put the cups the right way around.

He was asked about an incident at the Stafford Hotel in London in which Ms Greville claims he threw a bag at her head with a laptop and kicked her out of bed.

He said he didn't do anything physical to her.

The argument ended and we made up that evening, according to him.

The court heard that Mr Giggs and Ms Greville went on a holiday together in February 2020 after they broke up.

They met Ms Greville's friend at a restaurant. After the couple had been drinking all day, a row broke out in the taxi as they traveled back to their hotel.

He said with a slip of the tongue that he called her by her ex-wife's name, but he denied that it was deliberate.

He asked her to leave their hotel before changing his mind because it was just a stupid argument.

Ms Greville left and stayed with friends in the Middle East.

He wasgutted that it would end like this.

Mr Giggs said that he had never been sent off in the more than 1,000 matches he played.

It was for Wales. Being a footballer is part and parcel of being wound up and verbalised on the pitch.

He replied "no" when asked if he had reacted to that with violence.
