Donald Trump kept top- secret documents that could be used as a bargaining chip, according to Michael Cohen.
Cohen claimed that Trump could threaten to release classified information.
Cohen said that Trump could use this information to get out of jail.
According to Michael Cohen, President Trump kept top- secret documents at his Mar-a-Lago residence as a potential bargaining chip if he ever went to jail.
Cohen believes that he was going to use it as a bargaining chip to get out of jail. He will turn around and say "You don't seem to understand" after they put him in handcuffs. I have documentation that shows sensitive national security information, such as where our nuclear launch pads are.
Cohen painted a scenario in which Trump would threaten to have his "loyal supporters" release the classified information he had kept to Russia, Iran or "who ever it might be." He said he didn't think Trump cared about the country.
Cohen was asked if any of the documents Trump kept at his home were souvenirs.
If he ever felt he needed to have that document, Cohen said, he could show it off.
He believes that the sensitive information was going to be used by him to get out of jail.
The FBI removed 11 sets of classified documents when they executed a search warrant on the property. The Espionage Act is one of the laws the Justice Department is looking into.
Trump claimed without evidence that he declassified all the documents found at Mar-a-Lago. If he is found guilty of violating the Espionage Act, he will be sentenced to 10 years in prison.
Cohen was happy that Trump was being held accountable. He thinks that one of the former president's children or his son-in-law could be the person who tipped off the FBI about the documents.
On Monday, Cohen suggested that Rudy Giuliani, one of Trump's former personal lawyers, would be the next scapegoat in the Mar-a-Lago investigation.
Michael Cohen is a disbarred felon who was found guilty of nearly a dozen charges, including lying to a congressional committee, which makes him the perfect guest for CNN.
Cohen was one of Trump's closest advisers. He was the subject of a search of his home and office as part of an investigation into illegal payments to an adult film star.
Cohen pleaded guilty to a number of felonies. The New York Supreme Court disbarred him in February of 2019.
