The race for Hageman was called by the Associated Press. 22% of the vote was counted Wednesday.

Hageman led with 60.6% of the vote, followed by Cheney with 35.1%.

A Democrat hasn't held Wyoming's House seat in 38 years.

Since she's become a pariah in top Republican circles over her opposition to Trump, a heavy loss for Cheney was expected Tuesday night. Cheney was removed from her position as head of the House Republican conference in May of 2021. She was ostracized by her fellow Republicans when she agreed to serve on the committee. The only other Republican on the nine-member committee was censured by the Republican National Committee. Ahead of her election, the congresswoman's campaign reached out to Democrats in Wyoming to switch to the GOP in order to get them to vote for Cheney.

What To Watch For

Cheney has said that Trump cannot be the Republican nominee again. Cheney's coy approach to questions about presidential ambitions has led many pundits and media figures to promote her as a potential conservative alternative to Trump.

Big Number

There are two That's how many of the 10 Republicans who voted to impeach Trump will be on the general election ballot. Four of the impeachment Republicans retired. Valadao's district has been redrawn to favor Democrats in the general election.
