Liz Cheney, the most fearsome and resolute Republican opponent of former President Trumps lies about the 2020 election, was rejected by Wyoming voters in her own party.

Cheney, the daughter of former Vice President Dick Cheney and the vice chair of the Jan. 6 committee, lost her primary election to a Trump-endorsed attorney.

Hageman appeared to have defeated Cheney by a large margin in the polls. The result signals a turn for the Republican Party toward a greater embrace of baseless myths about the 2020 election that have already incited violence and unrest.

In the loss, Cheney was defiant. She spoke to her supporters after the race was over. I will do everything in my power to make sure that Donald Trump is not near the Oval Office.

The four-month series of Republican primaries, which tested the extent to which Trump still commands loyalty among party voters, came to an end with Cheney's defeat. The attempt to punish Georgia's Republican governor, Brian Kemp, was doomed by the end of March.

When Kemp won in late May, Trump was humiliated because of his late entry into the Ohio Senate primary.

There were ups and downs for Trump-backed candidates. Candidates who refused to acknowledge the 2020 election results ran the table in Arizona.

The full tally of the year's contests was taken by the Washington Post this week and it shows that in six battleground states that will likely decide the next presidential election, Republican voters have nominated 87 candidates who have a role. Candidates for governor, lieutenant governor, secretary of state, attorney general and the U.S. Senate are included.

The Post reported that 54 Republican voters reject the results of the 2020 election because they don't like the direction of the country.

The purge of the Republican Party is almost complete now that Cheney has been defeated. Republicans who firmly reject Trump's election claims have been wiped out.

Cheney was an ally of Trump. She was first elected to Congress in 2016 after Trump's election. Cheney voted with Trump almost all of the time.

She was chosen by her Republican colleagues in the House to be the third-ranking member of leadership.

During Trump's first impeachment, Cheney voted with him. She spoke on the floor of the house.

Cheney said that the Democrats had been looking for an offense on which they could impeach the president.

The attempt to impeach Trump for abusing his power was a dangerous one according to Cheney.

Cheney wouldn't bow to Trump's insistence that he had been cheated. She sent a 21-page memo to her Republican colleagues in the House.

In his memo, Cheney detailed the many allegations made by Trump and his allies, as well as how none of them were backed by evidence, and how Trump's lawyers had failed to win any cases in federal courts.

After the assault on the U.S. Capitol by Trump supporters seeking to stop the election's certification, Cheney said she would vote to impeach Trump. Everything that was done was done by him.

Cheney said there had never been a greater betrayal by a president of the United States.

She was one of 10 House Republicans who voted for impeachment, and now with her defeat, there are only two remaining. They either lost their primaries or didn't want to run for reelection.

Cheney was stripped of her leadership position in 2021 by her fellow Republicans after she broke with McCarthy over his stance against Trump. She said at the time that she would do everything she could to keep the former president away from the office.

Cheney was named vice chair of the select committee in September of last year. Over the past year, she has played a leading role in the committee and has repeatedly stated that Trump is a threat to America's constitutional republic and the liberties it upholds.

The hearings show that Trump spread false claims about the election, that he and his allies engaged in a campaign to pressure state officials to change election results, and that he tried to influence the outcome of the election.

The committee will hold more hearings this fall and Cheney will be involved in that process. Cheney said on Tuesday that she is determined to take on Trumpism in the GOP and possibly run for president in 2024.

Cheney said that Lincoln lost elections for the Senate and the House before he became president. Cheney dropped out of a race for the Senate after losing an election.

She said that freedom will not die here.
