Why the under might be the best play for Bears-Seahawks (0:34)

The best play of the week is taking the under in the Bears vs. Seahawks game. There is a time and a place.

Drew Lock will not play in Thursday's preseason game due to a positive test for carbon dioxide.

The news came 90 minutes after the coach said that Lock would start against the Bears. Lock will have to be isolated for at least five days in accordance with CDC guidelines.

Lock is protected against COVID-19.

Speaking to reporters after practice, before the announcement of Lock's positive test, Carroll also revealed the Seahawks are hoping to have Kenneth Walker III available for their season opener as the second-round pick deals with a hernia.

The battle to replace Russell Wilson was already notable when Lock's positive test was a surprise. Lock took all of Seattle's first-team reps on Tuesday in order to be ready for Thursday. During an 11-on-11 period on Tuesday, Lock threw an interception and looked shaky in his most extended action with the starters.

The expectation has always been to start Lock in the second preseason game. The mock game was started by Smith at Lumen Field.

It's part of the plan. Drew was going to start the game regardless of what happened. He deserves a chance to play and show what he can do because he has played well.

Lock has been correct on point. He's done everything he can to get himself ready to be a starter. We're going to see how it goes.

Lock, who was acquired from the Denver Broncos in the Wilson trade, missed one game last season and one in 2020 due to a positive COVID-19 test.

Lock had a strong night in Pittsburgh but lost a late fumbled ball in Seattle's loss. He was 11-of-15 for 102 yards and two touchdown passes in the second half of the game.

Drew came out and did well. The ball was popped around and converted some third downs. He did a lot of things. That's what's happened. I was pleased with both of them so far.

Lock was at fault for failing to account for the unblocked defensive end who hit him from behind with a little over a minute left in the game, which resulted in a fumbled ball. Smith was the leader of the competition because he was doing a better job of handling pre-snap responsibilities.

He made a mistake. He got walloped because he didn't do it right. He will never forget that hot moment. That was a great learning experience.

Smith went 10-of-15 for 101 yards and a rushing touchdown. Smith would have started 10-for-10 if not for a pair of drops and tight end Noah Fant not getting his second foot in bounds.

"Geno's still the number one guy." At this point, he is holding onto the spot. Drew has shown us something. Both of our guys are capable of playing. We don't know what that is. Both of them are capable of playing.

Walker, who is expected to fill a significant role in Seattle's backfield this season, wasn't on the field for Tuesday's practice.

"Ken's got a hernia that he's working on, and we've got to get through that, and he's doing a great job." I'm not sure what to tell you yet, but it's something that we can attend to. We want to make sure that he's okay by the opener.

Walker, the second running back selected in the draft and the 41st overall pick, was having a great off-season so far. Walker was praised for how well-rounded he has become. He said Walker could play all three downs and that he had turned the page on his pass protection issues.

Walker finished with 30 yards on 6 touches. He practiced Tuesday despite not playing against theSteelers due to groin tightness.
