The passenger jets are expected to carry passengers at twice the speeds of conventional passenger aircraft.

American Airlines made a non-refundable deposit on 20 Overture aircraft from Boom Supersonic. The Overture can fly at speeds of up to Mach 1.7. The speed of sound is represented by mach 1 Between 65 and 80 passengers can be carried on the jets from Paris to Montreal in just 3 hours and 45 minutes.

According to the terms of the agreement between American Airlines and Boom Supersonic, the supersonic jet manufacturer must prove that the Overture complies with all industry mandated safety, operation and performance standards before any aircraft are delivered. There is an option for the airline to purchase more airplanes in the future.

There is a team up to build military aircraft.

There is a larger diameter at the front of the passenger jet than there is at the back. According to the company, this design helps to minimize the drag experienced by the aircraft. Four jet engines mounted under the wings will give the Overture maximum speeds of over Mach 1.7 when flying over water and under Mach 1 when landing. The Federal Aviation Administration prohibits flight speeds over Mach 1 above land in order to mitigate noise caused by sonic booms.

"We are proud to share our vision of a more connected and sustainable world with American Airlines," said Boom's CEO and founder. The benefits of cutting travel times in half can help American deepen its competitive advantage on network, loyalty and overall airline preference.

"American Airlines is excited about how Boom will shape the future of travel both for our company and our customers," said Kerr.

The current agreement of 20 aircraft with the option for an additional 40 builds on a previous commercial agreement the two companies signed in 2021.

The Overture aircraft is one of the types of aircraft that Boom Supersonic has a deal with.

Boom Supersonic is mostly in preflight testing. The first flight of the company's aircraft is projected to take place by the year 2026. A first flight of the XB-1 technology demonstrator is planned for late 2022.
