A snake researcher was documenting a venomous cottonmouth turf war in North Carolina when a self-absorbed raccoon entered the water.

At least five adult cottonmouths were in the water when the animal decided to join them.

It is seen coming within a few feet of two cottonmouths before leaving the mud.

I was too surprised to be amazed when I saw the animal.

The same habitats have been shared by these animals for many thousands of years. They keep to themselves and get along well.

Cottonmouths and raccoon are not considered to be fierce enemies. A cottonmouth can only eat up to 25 pounds of an adult raccoon's weight. Pest experts say that raccoons are lazy hunters that like to avoid conflict.

A video of a snake battle that lasted more than 10 minutes was filmed in a coastal woodland area that is featured on a snake research page. The 25-acre spot is home to about 100 adult cottonmouths and their offspring.

The Cottonmouth Acres page has more than 11,000 fans on Facebook, and the video of a raccoon has been viewed more than 24,000 times.

The commenters applauded the animal for thinking his own business.

"Raccoon said, 'I didn't see nothing, I don't know nothing,'"

Jeff Thomas said that Raccoon is crazy.

I would like to be as brave as this animal. The person said, "Aimee Arnold."

The rare crocodiles will be raised at the aquarium.

The cottonmouths have a Facebook page.

The cottonmouth is one of the longest in the state.
