How Zach Wilson's injury could impact his development this season (0:58)

Wilson's injury could affect his development in his second year with the Jets. There is a time and a place.

The New York Jets don't have to worry.

According to sources, Wilson's surgery was a success and there were no surprises from the original diagnosis.

Sources had said that Wilson's recovery would be two to four weeks after he injured his knee in the game against the Eagles. The Jets avoided a season-ending injury to their second-year quarterback by not updating their timetable.

One source said that the Jets expected a trim. They were optimistic that the damage was not as bad as they thought, but they didn't make a final statement until after the surgery.

The Jets are expected to start Joe Flacco in the season opener against the Ravens, who he led to the Super Bowl title.

Sources say the Jets won't play Wilson until he's 100 percent. He injured the same knee last season that caused him to miss a game. The calendar is against him with regards to opening day because he will probably take at least two weeks of practice before he is cleared to play.

Wilson fell on the second series of the preseason opener. He ran out of bounds instead of gaining extra yards. He took a dive to the grass after making a cut to the inside. He walked away from the game. On the day after, the bone bruise and torn meniscus were revealed. Wilson went to LA for a second opinion.

Right tackle Mekhi Becton was placed on injured reserve by the Jets. They moved George Fant to the right tackle to replace him.

A season-ending injury to Wilson would have been devastating for the Jets. He is missing an unbelievable opportunity to get reps in, to play other defenses.

Wilson won't be able to play in the preseason games against the Falcons and Giants. The Jets are practicing against those teams.

In the last three days, he has looked sharp, but he hasn't had a lot of success as a starter. Since his final season with the Ravens, he hasn't won a game and has lost 14 in a row. The man said he's confident in Mike White and Joe Flacco.

It is comforting and I will shout out Mike White too. We have three starting quarterbacks. Joe has shown that he's a winner. His record here has not been very good. I believe he's 0-5, but he's been efficient. He was very efficient in our Miami game a year ago. We have faith in him to do the job.
