According to Shams Charania and Tony Jones of The Athletic, the New York Knicks are engaged in trade talks to acquire Utah JazzJazz player.

There is no traction on a deal and a trade is not imminent. The Jazz would be happy to hold on to Mitchell with three years left on his contract if he decided to stay or go this summer.

The Charlotte Hornets and Washington Wizards are said to have inquired about Mitchell.

The Utah Jazz traded Rudy Gobert to the MinnesotaTimberwolves in the off-season. Each of the last six years, the three-time NBA defensive player of the year led the team in win shares.

It's one of several changes for the Jazz this year, including head coach Quin Snyder stepping down.

Adding young assets and draft capital will help build a contender down the line. According to Stein, the Jazz want seven of the Knicks' future first-round picks.

Utah was able to build around Mitchell.

The three-time All-Star has averaged at least 20 points per game in each of his five years. He could become the face of the franchise with Gobert gone.

The possibility of building around Mitchell is something that opposing teams see.

According to Fred Katz of The Athletic, no one is coming close to the Knicks in regards to offers for Mitchell. In the last nine years, the organization has only made the playoffs one time and needs to turn things around.

Adding Mitchell could make the Knicks a feared team in the Eastern Conference, even if it costs them a lot in a trade.
