The Giants might give quarterback Tyrod Taylor some first-team snaps this summer.

Taylor is the backup to Daniel Jones.

"He'll get, as we get going here in terms of preseason games, we'll discuss whatever we think is best." I have complete faith in Daniel. I have full faith in Tyrod's abilities. Will he get a few reps here or there when we evaluate him? He could.

The order is clear at the moment and it could open the door for speculation on Taylor possibly replacing Jones. Jones, who has a fifth-year option on his contract, has taken all but one first-team rep this summer. When Taylor replaced Jones, he was having a discussion with Daboll about the play.

Jones worked with the first team in the preseason opener. He went 6 of 10. Taylor was 13-of-21 with a touchdown pass.

The starting and backup quarterbacks were on the field at the same time.

He insisted that getting Taylor some work with the first team was not a reflection on his starting quarterback's training camp or preseason performance.

"No, absolutely not," he said firmly. A good coach taught me a few things. He usually doesn't tell those guys when he throws them in because the backup job is what they are supposed to do. You have to get ready as if you are the starter. It's the fourth play of the game and you have to be ready to play. I don't think we will say when it will happen.

There is a chance of needing Taylor in a pinch. Jones has missed a lot of games because of injuries. Jones was hurt in the last six games of last season.

Taylor has started and looked good. He signed a two year deal with the Giants. Should the organization decide that Jones isn't the long-term answer, the plan was to have Taylor as the backup to start the season.

When they arrived, the new regime made it clear that they were fans of Jones.

Jones was the sixthoverall pick. John Mara said the Giants had done everything they could to make him unhappy. Three years have passed since Jones' last head coach.

The new regime would like to see what Jones is doing in the regular season. The Giants hope an improved offensive line and a more confident and less mistake-prone quarterback will help.

Jones will be given time to prove his abilities. Even if a few snaps in the preseason or training camp practice sparks discussion that Taylor could eventually take Jones' job, it won't change that.
