American Airlines and Boom Supersonic have an option to purchase up to 40 additional aircraft. A deposit has been paid on the first 20 aircraft.
A new speed advantage would be introduced to American's fleet. Boom must meet industry-standard operating, performance and safety requirements as well as American's other customary conditions before delivering any Overtures.
In the future, supersonic travel will be an important part of American's ability to deliver. The future of travel is going to be shaped by Boom.
The final production design of Overture was revealed by Boom in July.
Passengers are expected to be carried at twice the speed of today's fastest aircraft. It is capable of carrying up to 80 passengers at Mach 1.7 over water and has a range of 4,250 nautical miles. You can fly from Miami to London in less than five hours and from Los Angeles to Honolulu in less than three hours.
The vision of a more connected and sustainable world was shared by the founder and CEO of Boom. We believe that the benefits of cutting travel times in half can help American deepen its competitive advantage.
Boom hasn't specified its engine on the supersonic aircraft.
