Paramount

Walmart decided on Paramount Plus as a partner to bundle into its subscription service, Walmart Plus. The company is hoping all those signs will help it compete with Amazon, its biggest rival in the "ship everything under the sun directly to a customer's home" department

The New York Times reported last week that Walmart was interested in partnering with Paramount, Disney, and other companies. The Wall Street Journal reported that a deal had been signed. A press release from Walmart confirmed that Walmart Plus subscribers would be getting the essential tier of Paramount Plus for free.

The streaming bundle is a sneaky deal too good to pass up

It also means an added value of $5 a month to Walmart Plus, which is $12 a month. The streaming service formerly known as CBS All Access has built up a number of hits, including a mess of Star Trek shows. The sixth-highest grossing movie of all time will be streaming later this year on Paramount Plus.

Partnering with Walmart will help both companies compete with Amazon, which is the biggest shipper of stuff in the US and technically one of the biggest streamers in the world. It said earlier this year that it had over 200 million subscribers. That is less than the 220 million claims by Disney and less than the 220 million claims byNetflix. The company has more than 56 million subscribers. Walmart hasn't disclosed how many subs it had for Plus, but at least one estimate pegs it as a low 32 million subscribers paying for priority access to PS5s or optional perks.

If it wants to fight off Amazon, it will need a lot more. Maybe there will be synergy between the cheaper gas service and the spinoff of the famous geyser.
