Goalkeeper

Nick Pope (Newcastle United)

If it wasn't for Pope, Solly March might have had two goals. Adam Lallana had a shot saved by Pope when he had no right to be near it, and Dan Burn's shot seemed to wrong-foot the goalkeeper, but Pope and the rest of the team were able to keep the Seagulls out. Eddie Howe is a very good manager and this was a good result forNewcastle who are moving in the right direction.

Defenders

Kalidou Koulibaly (Chelsea)

I think they found a special replacement for Antonio Rudiger. While in Italy, he developed an excellent reputation for his competitive nature and needed that against Spurs. He is the only defender in the world who can score a goal. Even though his side conceded two goals, this was a good home debut for him. Antonio Conte, the manager of Spurs, is not to be messed with.

Pontus Jansson (Brentford)

Jansson must have heard the "you should have stayed at a big club" or "what's the score" chants. The captain of the team never kicked the ball to his former teammate in the win. The first half was dominated by David de Gea picking the ball out of the United net, while Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho were afraid to go near Jansson, just in case. The United players get a lot of money. Is there any chance they'll start earning it?

Tyrone Mings (Aston Villa)

I was surprised to see him on the bench. Needless to say, their opening fixture didn't go very well with a 2-0 defeat, and that's why they brought back Mings to face the Toffees. The England centre-back saved Villa with a great tackle on Salomon Rondon. I will never know why FrankLampard thought he could win this game. In 20 minutes, Rondon caused more problems for Villa than the rest of the team did.

Midfielders

Reece James (Chelsea)

James marked Son Heung-min out of the game in the first half, survived a booking, produced untold quality crosses, and then put them 2-0 up. James was the star performer, despite the fact that this was a classic London derby. Spurs showed enough resilience to take a point. We will have to wait until February for the match to take place, but we want more of the same. The FA Cup tie would go a long way. A game like that would be amazing.

Kevin de Bruyne (Manchester City)

For his goal, De Bruyne shifted Bournemouth's Lloyd Kelly to his left, and precisely where the defender didn't want to go, leaving him with enough room to dispatch his finish with class and precision. I haven't seen a shimmy like that in a long time. It doesn't matter to De Bruyne if the ball is on the right or left side because he is used to it. You get that with genius.

Granit Xhaka (Arsenal)

There can only be a small number of players who should have been sold or relieved of their duties. In some cases, this player has been booed off in a single game. I thought he would leave the football club on his own. The former captain remains faithful to the club despite his reservations. I can't fault his determination or passion, even though his goal was lucky.

Mathias Jensen (Brentford)

I saw it, but I didn't think it was real. It took 45 minutes for Manchester United to be destroyed. It took just a few minutes for the whole thing to be destroyed. I was concerned that United's new manager didn't know what to do about it. Jensen took advantage of United's casual approach to this game and made them pay. His contribution to the game was excellent, as evidenced by his first goal. Bryan Mbeumo scored after Ivan Toney passed the ball to him.

Forwards

Gabriel Jesus (Arsenal)

That was a good one for Jesus. The Brazilian is happy to play for a team that allows him to be free. He is playing like he just got out of a straitjacket. I have always believed Jesus was a better player than he was allowed to be during his time at Manchester City. He will rue how he missed this one, as he should have had a hat- trick. He knows that hat-tricks are hard to come by and he does now.

Rodrigo Moreno (Leeds United)

Raphinha and KalvinPhillips are no longer at Elland Road. Their opening games have been positive and all the credit goes to Jesse Marsch, who seems to be bringing the best out of the players he has. It's a pity that Manchester United doesn't have a manager who can do the same. You can find out what I thought about United's performance against the Bees in the Crooks of the Matter.

Luis Diaz (Liverpool)

It was the worst thing that could have happened to Darwin, and the best thing that could have happened toLiverpool. The altercation between the two players resulted in the dismissal of the Crystal Palace player. The crowd appealed for anything and everything. It was always going to take something special to stop Palace from scoring. It's not clear whether he can replace the goals that Sadio Mane produced for the club. There is definitely a missing man in the picture.

Garth Crooks' team of the week

The Crooks of the matter

Is there a chance that he will join Manchester United. Who came up with that idea? The United fans were left confused after the team's first game and defeat against the Seagulls. Their fans told them what to do with that idea. The manner in which they were beaten must have made the club less than it used to be. It is not clear who the club will attempt to buy this week.

It can only be described as a complete humiliation. The way the United players capitulated and threw in the towel after 35 minutes alarmed me. I've seen teams come back from big deficits before and United had enough time on the clock to get something out of it. They didn't have the guts or the spirit to stage a comeback. The club is in dire need of leadership both on and off the field and I fear neither Ten Hag, nor Harry Maguire have what it takes.
