It's pretty based and someone hacked a John Deere tractor to make it work.

At this year's DefCon hacker conference in Las Vegas, a hacker who goes by the handle "Sick Codes" came up with a way to get John Deeres to play the 1993 movie "Independence Day" on their digital control displays.

Sick Codes and another hacker created a mod that allows players to play from the perspective of a tractor operator, which is incredibly sick. The game that was originally about killing demons but has evolved into a cornucopia of delightful user mod is a really fun take on the game that involves harvesting corn to raise health or hunting down escaped pigs, which is a really fun take on the game that was originally about killing demons but has evolved into

With epic just-in-time help by NZ based doom modder @Skelegant. She helped get this run using DeHacked Doom, since gzdoom was a mission. Together, we teamed up to make this happen. She is amazingly talented. pic.twitter.com/OfVDMvRhzR

Tractor Beams

Sick Codes got into the world of DOOM mod not via gaming but by way of tractor hacking, a growing practice in which tractor operators hack their equipment to circumvent manufacturer-imposed digital locks.

The right to repair campaign encourages complete consumer control over electronics settings. The fascinating world of tractor operating system bugs and interface applications was the topic of a presentation last year. John Deere patched their software because his research was so thorough.

The hacker said that the right-to-repair side was against what he was attempting to do. "I received an email from a guy who said, 'You're fuck up all of our stuff!'" I wanted to prove to farmers that they can root the devices.

With the tractor DOOM mod that can be played on an actual tractor, it looks like Sick Codes put his money where his mouth is, and he hopes that this will contribute to the growing open-sourced tractor mod movement.

The hacker said that he wanted to liberate the tractor.

John Deere tractor rides the right-to-repair wave.
