Luis Diaz scores equaliser with Liverpool's 20th attempt of the game

Darwin Nunez was sent off for the first time in his career in the game between Crystal Palace andLiverpool.

The first half was dominated by the Reds but Palace took the lead through Wilfried Zaha's goal.

The expensive forward was shown a red card by the referee after 57 minutes when he headbutted the Palace defender after being shoved.

Four minutes after the restart, the Reds responded in defiant fashion with a goal from a player who cut in from the flank.

The siege began, with the two players just off target. Crystal Palace had a chance of their own when Zaha struck the far post when he should have scored, but they were unable to take advantage.

No excuse for Nunez madness

The Community Shield win against Manchester City was one of the highlights of Darwin's career so far, and he also got on the score sheet in the opening game of the season.

He left Anfield with his head in his hands after a moment of ill-discipline reduced them to 10 men.

The idiotic and expensive way in which Nunez thrust his head into the Palace defender left Tierney with no choice but to send him off.

The brilliantDiaz stepped into the breach with a moment of magic for the tying goal while HarveyElliott was also outstanding before he was taken off.

When Palace pressed, they had to settle for a draw that left them four points behind Manchester City.

Palace show resilience and threat

Crystal Palace showed in their opening game that they can build on the development they showed in the manager's first season, even though they lost.

They will take huge self-confidence and belief after a point in the game where they could have been three points down.

Palace spent most of the game defensively, but the counter- attack goal by Zaha showed what they are all about.

He held his head in anguish when he could only turn that chance at the far post against the upright.

Palace held firm in the closing stages even though they had to contend with a wall of noise from The Kop to earn a draw that will delight them.
