Donald Trump claimed on Monday that the FBI seized three of his passports during a raid on his Mar-a-Lago property.
In the raid by the FBI of Mar-a-Lago, they stole my three Passports, along with everything else, Trump wrote on Truth Social. This is an assault on a political opponent in our country.
The fact that a federal judge signed off on a search warrant for Trump's home in Florida led to an unprecedented search of the property of a former president. The search itself is evidence of political bias according to Trump.
There isn't an entry for a passport on the list of seized items. There are variations of the box labeled A-35 in multiple entries. There are only one listings for "Miscellaneous Secret Documents."
It is not uncommon for top officials to have multiple US passports. According to Slate, presidents can keep their official passports after they leave office. The back page of Barack Obama's official passport stated "The Bearer is the President of the United States" in a video released by the Obama White House.
It's not clear if Trump has more than one passport.
Garland told reporters that he signed off on the raid. The Justice Department moved to unseal the search warrant and the general list of items taken as a result of the search because of Trump's decision to publicly announce the episode.
The FBI did not reply immediately.
