The wild-card series will begin in October of 2022, according to the schedule released by Major League Baseball.

The dates for each round are listed here.

The Wild Card Game was introduced in 2012 to allow more teams to make the playoffs. The league decided to expand the playoffs to include 16 teams in the wild-card round.

The new collective bargaining agreement was written after a return to the usual format in 2021. The American and National League's top two seeds get to play each other.
