It's difficult to get a hold of an electric vehicle nowadays. It's not uncommon to wait months or even years to get a car because of global supply chain shortages.
That is something that a new California-based startup is trying to exploit. The company is offering a monthly EV subscription service to people who want to get a taste of the tech without having to pay the full cost of owning an EV. Consumers can pay anywhere between $490 and $690 a month to drive up to 1,000 miles, with maintenance and registration fees all taken care of, but not the world's greatest deal.
Paying a monthly bill for an EV may be a good idea. For one, subscribers don't have to worry about the depreciating value of their new vehicle, and for another, they don't have to worry about technology out pacing their investment, according to the report.
The whole thing is not a lease according to Autonomy.
The company's website says you're not borrowing money because you're not buying a car. No loan means you don't have to pay interest for a long time. It is possible to drive a car without owning it and without owning you.
It's a big problem for Autonomy to get its hands on EV's. The company ordered over a billion dollars worth of cars from 17 manufacturers and reserved 8,300 of them for use in the future.
It's not easy for Musk to build all of those subscription-based vehicles.
