They're giving snakes legs now, or at the very least, giving them their legs back.
Allen Pan said in a recent video that he felt bad for snakes because they lost their legs. He made a robot for them to help them find their missing legs.
What did the result look like? An amazing 3D printed appendage that allowed a python to walk around like she owned the place.
Pan pointed out that snakes have vestigial leg-like structures when they are born, even though their legs are gone.
"It turns out that snakes have two legs when they're embryos, but their genes are all messed up, so the genes that are supposed to grow two legs, uh, grow two penises instead."
He said that they couldn't walk on those.
Pan settled on a version with two legs in front and two in back, which is similar to the Western three-toed skink, a lizard with four tiny legs. Hackaday speculated about how the robot could be achieved if the snake decided where it would walk.
Pan contacted a snake handler and breeder named " Granddaddy Herp" who was able to get a large and beautiful yellow ball python into the artificial legs. Pan was convinced that snakes desire their legs back.
The science vlogger said that he couldn't get over the image of the snake in its robot suit.
Both of us can't.
There are scientists monitoring radioactive snakes near the site.
