Memphis Grizzlies to play Golden State Warriors as part of NBA's Christmas Day slate

The NBA will have games on Christmas Day for the first time.

A source with knowledge of the league's scheduling plans told The Associated Press that the Golden State Warriors will play the Memphis Grizzles in San Francisco on December 25.

One of the NBA teams that didn't have a game on December 25 was the Memphis Grizzlies. Only the Charlotte Hornets are waiting for their Christmas invite schedule.

Philadelphia will play New York, Milwaukee will play Boston, the Los Angeles Lakers will play Dallas, and the Phoenix Suns will play Denver.

The Athletic was the first to report on the games. The NBA schedule is expected to be released later this week. October 18 is the opening day of the season. There are training camps in late September.

It will be his 17th time playing on the holiday if he plays in the Lakers game against the Mavericks. Kobe Bryant had a tie with him for the most ever.

Milwaukee and Boston played in the second round of the playoffs last year.

This will be the fifth year in a row that Christmas does not have a repeat of the NBA finals. There hasn't been a Finals repeat since Golden State beat Boston for the title in June.

The Brooklyn Nets did not make the Christmas schedule. In June, he told the Nets that he wanted to be traded somewhere else.

Dallas hosted a Christmas game in the past. The Mavericks beat the Heat in the NBA finals in 2011. The Mavericks opened the season with a loss to the Heat.

The Lakers have played on Christmas for 24 years in a row. Golden State will make its 10th consecutive Christmas appearance, Boston will make its 7th in a row, and Milwaukee will make its 5th in a row.

The city of New York has played on Christmas for 55 years.

The Christmas schedule this year has seven teams that made the conference semifinals. The exception is Miami, which was the top seed in the East and lost to Boston in the conference finals.

Charlotte's last Christmas game was in 2003 and they are one of five teams that have not played on Christmas since.
