After three years of waiting, a Turkish manufacturer of drones is planning to open a factory in the country.

Haluk Bayraktar, the CEO of Turkish defense firm Baykar, said in an interview that the company currently has the manufacturing capacity to build twenty of its Bayraktar TB2 drones a month, but wants to up that with a new facility.

Bayraktar said that the company had already begun to build the Ukrainian factory.

Bayraktar told the foundation that there was a surge in demand for the company's drones.

More countries are interested in these systems as they prove themselves.

Representatives for Baykar didn't reply to Insider's request for comment.

Early in the campaign to destroy large numbers of Russian vehicles, Bayraktar's drones were used to great effect. A folk song about their popularity was created.

Bayraktar was credited with destroying invading Russian tanks and armored vehicles in the early days of the war.

The Bayraktar Aknc and Bayraktar Kizilelma are two of the models that will be manufactured by the Ukrainian plant.

After turning down $20 million in crowdfunded money, the company donated three drones to Ukraine. In a statement, the company asked that the funds be diverted to the people of Ukranian.

Experts told Insider that the Turkish drones were becoming less effective as Russian forces increased their air defenses.
