Have you ever wanted to go to a bar without talking to the bartender? Scientists at the University of Naples have created a machine that can do that.

BRILLO can do everything you want a bartender to do. He can remember your drinks, make small chats, and even crack jokes if you're having a good time.

BRILLO wears a bow tie and vest with long mechanical arms and a human-like face to make him more personable.

BRILLO started development in 2020 through a partnership between university researchers at PRISCA Labs and Totaro Automazioni. The team wanted to "mimic the important social aspects of a bartender's job" by making machines that can make drinks.

In order to learn in real-time, BRILLO's artificial intelligence is trained to study a customer's face and speech. BRILLO will be able to start an interaction based on the customer's mood.

CNBC Make It tells us not to expect robots to take jobs at dive bars anytime soon or in the near future, despite having spent two years teaching BRILLO complex dialogue-based interactions. People are more hesitant to talk to a robot, according to CNBC Make It.

The bartender robot is only used for research. Privacy and ethical issues are very challenging and we want to take care of that.
