John Dean, former President Richard Nixon's White House counsel, predicted on Sunday that media supporters of former President Trump would have an "egg all over their face" when the DOJ investigation into matters involving classified documents ends.

The host of CNN's "Reliable Sources" asked Dean his thoughts on the conservative media's response to the FBI's search of Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence.

The search was a clear and gross abuse of power according to some TV cable news hosts.

Dean said that they don't seem to want to appreciate that the FBI and other federal law enforcement as well as state and local, they enforce search warrants every day

There's a reason Trump provoked this. The person who didn't cooperate is him. He forced the hand of the attorney general. We have no idea what he has or had.

Garland isn't a risk taker, he isn't a guy who goes where no one else has gone. Dean thinks that the people will have egg on their face when this is over. There should be, even though they may never admit it.

After initially covering up the Watergate scandal, Dean later cooperated with federal prosectors and testified against Nixon during the congressional investigation into the scandal.

Since a search warrant was executed on Trump's Mar-a-Lago residence, the FBI and DOJ have been attacked. Garland said last week that the department would seek to unseal the warrant and reveal documents that were taken in which some were classified and top secret.

Republicans have supported Trump since the raid, with one lawmaker introducing articles of impeachment of Garland.

In the last few days, Garland and Wray have defended the work of federal law enforcement agents.

The FBI and Justice Department agents and prosecutors have been attacked recently. I will not be silent when their integrity is attacked. The FBI and the Justice Department are dedicated to public service.
