The cast is so large that it can be agreed on about the show. It felt like the fourth season was straining to give everyone something to do because of the various government and supernatural figures and Hopper's party in Russia. It is difficult to juggle so many characters when they suddenly become fans.
Ross and Matt Duffer want to keep the focus on the show's previously established characters for the final two seasons. The brothers said they would do their best to not add new characters. The OG characters will be the focus of the final season according to Matt.
The risk of introducing new characters comes at the expense of screen time for veterans. When introducing a new character, we want to make sure that they are part of the narrative. Ross said that they are careful about the process of bringing new blood into the show. If someone isn't great, we can't add them to our characters.
The risk of getting a plotline to fit with the rest of the show is something new actors are aware of. For most of the time, the brothers have found that the new additions have worked. It is fun because these actors are amazing. We shake it up by changing the plot or creating a new monster.
The fifth and final season of the show will be on the streaming service in four years.
