"We want you to be able to teach in the state of Florida," the governor said in the video. For too long, the requirements to be a teacher have been too rigid with union bosses demanding that all teachers have certain credentials that have little impact on teaching performance.
Veterans who have an honorable or medical discharge can teach if they clear a background check. Half of a four-year degree is required for them to pass a Florida subject exam.

"Our veterans have a lot of knowledge and experience they can bring to bear in the classroom, and with this innovative approach, they will be able to do so for five years with a temporary certification as they work towards their degree."
According to WPTV, the Florida Education Association is expecting thousands of teacher vacancies in the next two decades. The agency called on lawmakers to make sure teachers get better salaries and that schools have qualified teachers.
