Some shocking numbers have been revealed in a poll commissioned by DER Spiegel. According to the survey carried out by the online polling firm Civey, only 22 percent of those surveyed are in favor of shutting down the three nuclear plants in Germany. A majority of those surveyed are in favor of continuing to operate the plants until the summer of 2023, a variant that is being discussed in the political sphere as a "stretch operation." A small majority of Green Party supporters favor this approach. According to the answers, the attitude of Germans towards nuclear power has changed a lot. The majority of people are in favor of continuing to operate the nuclear plants for the next five years. The supporters of the Green Party don't have a clear majority in favor of running the plants. Forty-one percent of respondents answered "yes" when asked if Germany should build new nuclear power plants because of the energy crisis. The results are better than in the past. Thirty-three years ago, a polling institute asked the same question. Only 3% of respondents thought Germany should build plants. According to the polling figures, people may be interested in reverting to the old energy status quo. Recent years have shown that support for the nuclear phaseout is crumbling. This shift has been accelerated by the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine. Since Russia cut gas deliveries, the energy security that people took for granted has been disrupted. The old German idea of rejecting nuclear energy seems to be collapsing. There are either concerns being put on the back burner or not. Nuclear waste has radiation. There are safety risks. There is a danger of large scale disasters. Who doesn't care? You worry about those when you have heat. Ethics and electricity first.
