Were Tottenham lucky to snatch a draw vs. Chelsea? (2:00)

There was a 2-2 draw between Spurs and Blues in the premier league. There is a delay of 2 minutes.

2:40 PM ET

The intent of the two teams was to be London's best in the 2022-23 season, but neither could get a full three points from the game. The first big London derby of the season unfolded in dramatic fashion, as goals from Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg and Harry Kane erased Blues' leads, and the managers had to be separated more than once.

The late Kane goal rescued Spurs from a defeat at the hands of the Blues.

James Olley reacted to the tie.

Player ratings, best and worst performers, highlights and notable moments, post- match quotes, and key statistics are included.

Rapid Reaction

There is a Battle of the bridge.

The heat may have gotten to them. There were disagreements over refereeing decisions. The rivalry here feels like it's as ferocious as some of the all-time premier league greats, twice having to be separated after Spurs' first goal.

It was similar to the "Battle of the Bridge" in May 2016 when nine Spurs players were booked and the leading protagonists were the two managers.

It's possible that he was trying to lead from the front in order to help close the gap between Spurs and the top teams. They were not at their best but still managed to get a point thanks to Kane's 96th-minute headed goal. It could be a stepping stone to closing the gap now. The Tuchel-Conte dynamic is no longer the same.

Kante is injured.

If you looked at N'Golo Kante, you wouldn't know it was 95 degrees at the start of the game. After Spurs made a promising start, the Frenchman helped the Blues take control of the game by holding them back in their own half. However, Kante went off five minutes from the end with what appeared to be a hamstring injury, the latest blow for a player who has had a number of problems, including knee and muscular issues and contracting Covid-19.

He is absolutely essential to the performance of the team in big matches. There is a chance that a move away from the club as Crystal Palace, where he flourished on loan last season, could have a knock-on effect on the player. If Kante is ruled out for a long period of time, Tuchel will be less inclined to let Gallagher go.

The signings delivered, but more is required.

Even though Spurs gave him the freedom of west London to perform, he opened the scoring with a fine volley. Both were making their home debut in the top flight and looked at home.

Tuchel has been given a greater influence over transfers under the new Todd-Boehly/Clearlake-led ownership and his judgement was vindicated by the dynamic performances of Mason Mount and Kai Havertz. With Romelu still at the club, neither position would have been possible. The need for a clinical forward remained clear, even after Havertz missed a great chance moments before James put the Blues up.

It was easy to see why Tuchel would like to sign Pierre-Emerick.

Player ratings

Subs: Cesar Azpilicueta 6, Conor Gallagher 6, Christian Pulisic 6, Armando Broja 6.

Hugo Lloris 7, Eric Dier 7, Ben Davies 6, Ryan Sessegnon 5, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg 7, and Dejan Kulusevski 5.

Subs: Richarlison 6, Yves Bissouma 6, Ivan Perisic 6, Lucas Moura 6.

Best and worst performers

The person with the best performance is Reece James.

The sort of attack-minded wing-back play that makes Son so vital to the 3-4-3 system was the reason why he was kept quiet.

The worst is Dejan Kulusevski.

He has been a revelation since he joined, but he couldn't get into the game and struggled to stop the left flank of the Blues.

Highlights and notable moments

The intensity, the instant-classic nature of the match, and the fact that it was played in front of the Blues' bench were all highlights.

After the match: What the players and coaches said

It's not important to me. Football is the most significant thing. After the full-time whistle, there was an altercation between the two men.

You look into each other's eyes when you shake hands. Tuchel said that Antonio had a different opinion of the situation.
