According to court documents, a woman in St. Pete has been arrested on a charge of making harassing phone calls.
Police said the woman constantly calls and harasses, belittles, swears at, and demands officers come arrest her. She called the emergency communications center 512 times in a 24 hour period.
The woman was out on bail after being arrested for making too many calls to the non emergency line. 10% of the call volume to the non emergency line was accounted for by her in her calls.
The police tried a number of tactics to get the woman to stop before arresting her. They dispatched their mental health team to help the woman, but that didn't stop the calls. They sent officers to the woman's home after being warned.
The woman made more than 1,000 calls in a single day, but less than half of the calls the agency received that day. She was told to stop by the agency's legal team.
It is very unusual for us to charge someone. She said that the mental health team has helped address the issue.
The woman was released from the jail on her own recognizance the next day after she was arrested on a harassment charge. The woman isn't being named because she's only been charged with a small offense.
