We've killed the globe-trotting walrus.

In July, she made headlines for her love of sunbathing on small Nordic boats, but she accidentally sank several of them. Authorities planned to build a floating platform that would support her weight so they could move her to a better location.

She won't set sail because she was euthanized earlier today. According to officials, humans just couldn't keep their paws to themselves, and wouldn't listen to warnings to stay away from the potentially dangerous animal. Many tourists wanted to take pictures with her.

The public has ignored the current recommendation to keep a clear distance from the walrus, according to a statement by Frank Bakke- Jensen. The possibility for harm to people was high and animal welfare was not being kept up.

It's not the first time our inability to respect wildlife has led to the death of a beloved animal.

Harambe, the 17-year-old gorilla, was shot and killed at the Cincinnati Zoo in 2016 after a 3-year-old child fell into his exhibit. The child was dragged but not attacked.

Harambe's death was ordered over more than one person.

Nobody would ever want to harm a child or an adult, but why are we allowed to do so? Our lives are more important than theirs.

Even if humans never seem to find peace, I hope Freya can.

The experts say that strip mining made the floods worse.
