If Republicans take control of the lower chamber after the 2020 elections, James Comer of Kentucky, who could potentially lead the House Oversight Committee, has shown interest in becoming a member.

The ranking member of the Oversight panel said in a recent interview that it wouldn't turn into a dog-and-pony show if he was in charge.

"This isn't a committee where everyone is going to scream and be angry and try to make the witnesses look like fools," he said.

Hunter Biden, the president's son, has become a target for Republicans because of his business dealings inUkraine.

Republicans hope to use a House majority to conduct vigorous oversight against the Biden administration, which has already started to prepare itself against potential probes regarding everything from the 2021 US withdrawal of troops from Afghanistan to the shortage of baby formula.

Many of the panel's members are members of the House Freedom Caucus, which is loyal to the former president.
