Jacob deGrom of the Mets recorded 10 strikeouts in a six-innings performance. There is a time and a place.
Jacob deGrom and the New York Mets defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday night.
After spending the first part of the season on the injured list, DeGrom gave up two hits and no walks in his third start. He has given up six hits, struck out 28 and issued one walk in 1633 appearances this year.
"You don't know what to expect when you come back, but last time out I was able to look at a few things where I felt I was getting off mechanically and try to make those adjustments while I was going through a pretty slow process of coming back,'' deGrom said That seems to have worked out a bit.

The two-time NL Cy Young Award winner struck out the first batter he faced and then gave up a soft single to the next batter. deGrom struck out J.T. Realmuto on three consecutive pitches.
DeGrom has struck out 28 of the 56 batters he has faced. The pitcher's 50% strikeout percentage is the highest through the first three starts of a season since 1893. The previous high for strikeouts by DeGrom was 48.6%.
He's doing well. He can do whatever he wants with the hitters.
DeGrom improved to 9-1 in 20 career starts against the Philadelphia.
The NL East leaders improved to 31-9 after a loss and a 10-4 win over Philadelphia. Alonso has 97 runs.
Philadelphia had runners on second and third in the ninth, but Nick Castellanos struck out swinging for the last out. It was his 27th save of the year.
The pitcher is the sixth to reach 200 saves.
DeGrom said it was awesome. He's done a great job and you're comfortable whenever he's on the field.
The Mets have posted 15 shut outs. It was their first win over Philadelphia in over a decade.
The pitching staff was the center of the show.
Philadelphia missed out on a great performance by Nola, who allowed four hits. He dropped to 0-3 in four starts against the Yankees this year with eight strikeouts and one walk.

New York got off to a good start. Starling Marte scored on Alonso's soft single after taking third on a throwing error by Realmuto.
There were two one-out singles in the second after Alonso's hit. Nola began the eighth with a walk.
Nola said that it would be low scoring against deGrom. It will be a battle all night. It was.
