The cast of "Top Gun: Maverick" found out they were similar to the fighter pilots they would portray in the movie.

Jay Ellis, who plays pilot Ruben "Payback" Fitch in the movie, said it was the first night out with cast members that they all lived up to their pilot calls.

Ellis told Insider that he wasn't sold on the call sign payback. He was told by the director that if they could come up with better ones, he would be happy to change.

Ellis felt this was his way to make his mark on the movie after hearing that.

Ellis and other costars went to the real Top Gun site in Nevada to meet the real pilots, as well as Lewis Pullman, who was given "B.O.B.", and Glen Powell, who was given "Hangman."

Monica was going to prove she could hang with everyone that night and then literally rose from the ashes the next day.

He said that Lewis gave him his phone back after he told him his phone had died. You have to buy drinks for the whole bar if you set your phone on a bar.

There is a scene in "Top Gun" that is similar to this. Tom Cruise's character in the movie must buy a round for everyone at the bar if he wants to keep his phone.

The bartender rang the bell when Ellis put Lewis' phone on the bar. A group of people got a free beer. I had to return the tab he paid for.
