Donald Trump has "won" their longstanding public feud in the short term, according to a Republican congressman.

Kinzinger, who will leave Congress after this session, drew the ire of Trump when he called out his false claims of election fraud.

The recent August primaries proved the success of some Trump endorsed candidates.

He won in the short term. There is no need for me to pretend that I saved the party.

The GOP's obsession with the former president was decried by Kinzinger.

There is an opportunity if people wake up. I know what I can do if they don't. It's not the party I've been a part of. It's around a person and it's weird to be honest with them.

Reports say that Trump is going to run for president in 2024. Kevin McCarthy told Trump to hold his announcement after the elections in November.

The feud with Trump has had consequences for Kinzinger. He said he received a threat to kill him and his family. Kinzinger told WGN-TV that his son inspired him to keep going.

"I just had a kid, and I know one thing: Regardless of what happens, he's going to be proud of his last name," Kinzinger said. He is going to be proud at some point. There are a lot of people that can't say the same thing.
