The New York Times reported that a member of Trump's legal team signed a document stating that all classified material had been returned to the government after a June visit by officials.
Sources told the New York Times that the written declaration was drafted after a top counterintelligence official visited Mar-a-Lago.
According to the New York Times, the document would explain why investigators listed an obstruction of justice statute as a basis for the search of Trump's home.
The paper said that the existence of it would clarify why the Justice Department conducted the search months after starting discussions with the Trump team.
There were 20 more boxes of government materials taken during the raid. Trump described the raid as political persecution. The National Archives in Washington, D.C., retrieved some of the 15 boxes of White House documents that were taken to Mar-a-Lago after the Justice Department began investigating them.
The lawyer for Trump told the justice department. The material had been returned.
The search warrant in the FBI's Trump Mar-A-Lago raid was not made public.
The FBI is investigating whether Trump violated three statutes.
There is a lot to know about the document controversy that led to the Mar-A-Lago raid.
