Report: LeBron James, Lakers at Steph Curry, Warriors Scheduled for NBA Opening Night

According to Shams Charania of The Athletic and Stadium, the Golden State Warriors will play the Los Angeles Lakers on the opening night of the NBA season.

The Warriors will receive their rings after their NBA finals victory.

There will be a lot of star power in the game, with Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and Andrew Wiggins for the Warriors, and Anthony Davis and Russell Westbrook for the Lakers.

This will probably not be a preview of the conference finals.

Development by young stars can help offset some of the departures on Golden State's roster. James Wiseman is healthy again after missing the 2021-22 campaign with a knee injury, while Jonathan Kuminga should be better in his second year.

LA made improvements. They will provide depth.

So much of the Lakers' season will be dependent on the health of James and Davis and the resurgence of their performances. James is no longer able to carry his team to a deep run in the playoffs.

Grant Hughes of Bleacher Report put Golden State at the top of his rankings. Los Angeles was the lowest ranked city.

There are differing opinions of oddsmakers. The Warriors are the third favorite to win the title, followed by the Lakers and then the Celtics. It is most likely about reputation over reality in L.A.

A similar one-sided dynamic could emerge in the season ahead as Golden State and Los Angeles play each other.
