The New York Yankees are hoping to have their two injured players back in time for the end of the season.

The Yankees are hoping that Luis Severino can make five major league starts in September, as he is set to throw from a mound on Monday for the first time since being put on the injured list.

He had his check-up in New York City. He might come back this season after having another round of X-rays.

On August 1st, he was transferred from the 15-day injured list to the 60-day IL.

He did not pitch in the July 13 win over the Cincinnati Reds. In 16 starts this season, he is 6-3 with a 3.45 ERA, 1.07 WHIP and 95 strikeouts

He didn't like being moved to the 60 day IL. The plan was for the right-handed pitcher to make around five starts before the playoffs.

After the Yankees traded Jordan Montgomery to the St. Louis Cardinals, it will be great to have Luis Severino back in the rotation.

By the time the playoffs come around, the Yankees will have a rotation of Cole, Montas, Taillon, and Espino.

Carpenter fractured his left foot after fouling a ball off in Monday's game. He doesn't need surgery to fix the broken bone.

He told reporters earlier this week that he was coming back.

It's the best we could hope for, given the situation. It takes time to heal a broken bone.

Before the injury, Carpenter was batting.300 with 15 home runs and 37 runs scored in 47 games.

The Yankees are in first place in the American League East with a 71-41 record. They have a good chance of making the playoffs and making a deep run.
