The $1,000 and $1,800 foldable devices are the fourth generation of the device. We thought we'd take a look at the newest phones from Samsung to see what Apple needs to improve upon when it comes to foldable devices.

There were a lot of issues with the early foldable devices, but they have had several years to fix them. A lot of these issues have been addressed by new hinge designs and body refinements.

The Z Fold 4 is the larger of the two foldable phones and it folds like a book, going from a 6.1-inch display to a 7.6-inch display. The Z Flip 4 has a 6.7-inch display and folds vertically, top over bottom. There is a 1.9-inch display where you can see notifications, the time, and other information.

The Z Fold 4 runs a special version of the operating system built for foldable devices, and both of the foldable devices feature 120Hz displays. There are useful multitasking capabilities with the addition of the dock that makes it easy to swap between applications.

Since the beginning of the year, there have been rumors about a foldable iPhone, but so far, there have been no tangible rumors about the device.

In January of 2021, Mark Gurman said that Apple had not yet committed to releasing a foldable device, and that the work on an iPhone with a foldable display was in the early stages. There are rumors that Apple is testing 8-inch and 9-inch foldables, but we are still years away from a release.
