Kevin O'Connell said Friday that the Vikings quarterback had tested positive for a drug. He won't travel with the team for Sunday's preseason opener against the Las Vegas Raiders because he's going to have to be isolated for five days.
The final week of training camp would allow him to return. O'Connell said that the symptoms of the man are not very serious.
After he fell ill, the Vikings sent him home. He missed one game due to a positive test. He was forced to miss five days of training camp last summer because he was in close contact with a backup quarterback who had tested positive.
In March, the COVID-19 protocols were paused. Players are required to follow CDC guidelines after a positive test. Additional protocols can be imposed by teams.
It's possible thatCousins wouldn't have played against the Raiders if O'Connell hadn't revealed his playing time plans. Mond and Sean Mannion will be the backups on Sunday.
