Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel has admitted he will always have a "close bond" with transfer target Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang.

If Barcelona allow him to leave this month, the Blues will make a move for the player.

Tuchel said he still harbours strong regard for the man.

Tuchel said that he enjoyed working with Auba while he was at Dortmund.

You were very, very close and some players stay with you. Auba is a player.

This close bond was always there. The players stay in a way.

It was Mikel Arteta who forced the issue that led to the departure of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang to Barcelona.

"I had a good relationship with him in Germany, but this has nothing to do with the situation in north London, about which I will not comment out of respect," Tuchel said.

There was no problem in the city.

Arteta hopes that if he joins the Blues, he will get a good reception from the fans of his old club.

"I can't go back when there's another series, it's been a long time since that happened," Arteta said.

Following the release of Amazon's documentary on Arsenal 'All or Nothing', Mikel Arteta reflects on the decision to strip Aubameyang of the captaincy, with the Gabonese forward also linked with a move to Chelsea

I was clear and honest about what I thought. Our club has been defended and we need to be clear and honest.

"Auba is an exceptional player, he did so much for us and we have to be thankful for what he did for this club."

He deserves a good reception from the fans of the club. The trajectory of the individual is different in your career.

Tuchel refuses to comment on Fofana

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Wesley Fofana, Frenkie De Jong
With Aubameyang, Frenkie de Jong and Wesley Fofana all heavily linked to Chelsea, could Tuchel have three new additions before the end of the transfer window?

Tuchel didn't comment on the speculation over Fofana, with the Blues having had two bids for the Frenchman turned down.

The valuation of the 21-year-old by the Blues is still some distance away, but they are only interested in an offer close to the record fee paid for a defender by Manchester United three years ago.

Sky Sports News reported earlier this week that a bigger offer is in the offing which will be closer to the valuation of the club.

Tuchel made Fofana a priority this summer, but he doesn't want to sell him, because he thinks his value will increase in the future.

Cesar Azpilicueta talks through what has been an unusual summer and how he is happy to still be at Chelsea

As the deadline approaches, the club will be reluctant to part with their assets.

Tuchel said he would not comment. If you take into account the fact that we play with a back three, we could use more central defenders.

Cesar Azpilicueta is more of a full-back in the back three, and the profile of the guys in the back three is a little bit different.

They aren't central defenders so we could do with one more.

It's one thing you wish for and what's possible, but we could use and strengthen our squad in strength and depth.
