Salman Rushdie Is Attacked Onstage in Western New York

According to multiple witnesses and accounts on social media, the author was attacked on stage in western New York.

At 10:45 a.m., shortly after Mr. Rushdie took the stage to deliver his lecture, an attack occurred.

The author was seated in a chair when a man rushed the stage and attacked him. It was not known if Mr. Rushdie was hurt.

Mr. Rushdie lived in hiding for 10 years after Iran called for his death because of his novel. He was banned from India for more than a decade after the book was banned there.

The audience was told that there was only one attacker. He was wearing a black outfit. He had a black shirt on. He was running with lightening speed.
