The Hall of Fame Game between the Las Vegas Raiders and the Jacksonville Jaguars was a good start. With a full schedule of preseason games on the menu beginning Thursday, teams are readying to put some of what they've been practicing on display.
There was a fight between the offensive and defensive lines when the Bills left their college home. Patrick Mahomes is adjusting to his new teammates. The tallest player in the Packers is making a big impact. The Indianapolis Colts have good luck with injuries.
The things are getting better. Someone made a mark Thursday. Who got hurt? The person had the most fun.
You need to know what to expect from the camps.
Matt Rhule won't say who will start Saturday's preseason opener at Washington, but he did say both will play one series. Jaycee Horn will not play because of a foot injury. Horn needs to be at his best for next week's practices at New England.
The two quarterbacks were not sharp for Thursday night's Fan Fest at Bank of America Stadium. The pick-six was taken by the quarterback. At times, he was unpredictable. It wasn't great today, but Rhule admitted it was difficult to judge because of the atmosphere.
Injuries forced him to play more on the outside in camp while he was the Raiders' slot corner. The responsibility hasn't been shirked by the man. He's asked to take one-on-one reps against Adams and has held his own against him.
"They've been going at it for a long time," said Carr. Everyone knows how I feel about Tae. I always tell him I'm so proud of him. Continue to work. Don't stop. I like that he's not backing down. Hopefully that will translate into the season because he has flashed a lot of talent.
One of the team's younger backs, such as Arvada, Colorado, native Max Borghi, could get noticed if Mike Boone is given more snaps in practice this week.
Gordon was held out of practice for two days this past week and will not play in the preseason opener against the Dallas Cowboys.
Gordon made it clear early on in camp that he was ready to carve out a role in the offense, especially as a receiver out of the backfield.
Gordon's injury will not change the plan, but it will allow other players, like Borghi, to be put in situations they wouldn't have had the chance to experience.
The Vikings had two quarterbacks for their full-pads practice on Thursday, but one of them was sick.
Mannion and Mond split first-team reps, with Mannion getting the first crack at each possession in 11-on-11 drills, but both quarterbacks had some shaky moments.
When Za'Darius Smith got around Christian Darrisaw, Mannion had to throw his third ball in the dirt. He threw two throws over the middle to Jefferson.
Mond dropped a snap from under center, continuing a worrisome trend that has reared its head throughout training camp.
The retirement of Chris Carson and the emergence of Ken Walker III have made it clear that he will have a big role in the running backs.
On Tuesday, the point was hammered home, with coach Pete Carroll giving a glowing assessment of Walker after the walk-through andPenny being out for a second time.
The running backs coach challenged him from the start. He was able to play all three downs.
Walker caught 19 passes in college but his receiving skills have stood out in camp.
"We're taking care of him, he's feeling a little bit of groin tightness, so we're just taking care of him."
The final practice for the Buffalo Bills will take place at St. John Fisher University on Thursday, ending dorm life for the team. One of seven teams to have gone away from their home facilities for training camp this year, the Bills are hoping to return to Rochester in the future. Next year there is no contract in place. Josh Allen is a fan of the team.
Are you ready for the start of the game? If you want to play with your friends and family, sign up now. It's time to get started.
I like camping. I enjoy spending time with the guys. It's an awesome atmosphere to be a part of, especially when you have the kind of guys that we have in our locker room, guys that genuinely love and care about each other.
Allen won't be playing in the team's preseason opener against the Colts. The first-team offense and defense had a lot of tackling and a fight between defensive tackle Ed Oliver and left tackle Dion Dawkins, while the second team and third team had more of a walk-through.
The final practice session before the preseason opener was held by the Kansas City Chiefs. Patrick Mahomes won't play more than a quarter but will get to throw to a mostly new group of wide receiver for the first time in the game. During training camp, JuJu Smith-Schuster has been a favorite target and he connected on a few completions on Thursday. Mahomes said he likes to get in there and get hit. It's good to see what it's like to get hit again as a quarterback once you get hit a few times.
The New York Jets will play the Philadelphia Eagles in a game on Friday. It's a mild surprise that DE Carl Lawson will play. It wasn't long before he was back to his old ways. The Jets don't want to keep him in bubble wrap but they will be smart with him.
It will be a confidence boost for him to play Friday. He said he wants it all and has ridiculous expectations for himself in the future. Rich Cimini wants to do something that isn't supposed to happen.
It's hard to ignore the rookies in the Packers. He is the tallest player in Packers camp at 6 feet 8 inches. It's time to pay attention to where the free agent is on the chart. Jones was the right tackle at the start of camp. Considering the Packers don't have a left tackle yet, Jones might have a chance to make the team.
He's a little bit better foot athlete than people give him credit for, Packers GM Brian Gutekunst said. He has made the most of his opportunities and you have to give him a lot of credit.
He is 10-4 in the one-on-one pass- blocking drill. He has stopped the man whenever he has got his hands on him. At his most recent weigh-in, Jones dropped his weight from 347 to 338.
"At this position nowadays every guy I'm trying to block runs a 4.4, and it's really done wonders being able to have my weight down."
When asked if there were any tall tackles he had studied or tried to emulate, Jones said it was difficult because there were not many.
The Washington Commanders ran a light practice Thursday as they prepare for their preseason opener. They will play 15 to 20 snaps.
It will be a good opportunity for Sam to show what he has learned. The fifth-round pick is firmly the third quarterback on the team. He will play most of the time. He mostly has been confined to the pocket in practice as he gets used to the timing and rhythm of a play, but Saturday he will be able to showcase more of his athletic ability when a play breaks down Ron Rivera wants to see how Howell handles situations of two minutes or less. The Commanders ran a two-minute drill against a scout team defense.
The Colts spent most of last season's training camp putting together an offensive line as four of their starting five missed time with injuries.
In this training camp, the Colts have had a lot of injuries up front, with all five members of the starting unit participating in every practice so far.
Nelson said it had been great. I'm happy with the offensive line.
Nelson missed a lot of training camp due to foot surgery. During that camp, Pro Bowl center Ryan Kelly and right tackle Braden Smith were injured. A regular season marked by rampant injuries within the unit and under performance for a line that had been one of the league's elite.
Nelson seems to be in good shape and ready for a big season after a long year.
Nelson said it was freeing. You don't take health for granted anymore.
Despite being two days away from their first preseason game, the PittsburghSteelers practiced in pads and had live tackling drills. The highlight was running backs against defensive backs and linebackers, and training camp signee Master Teague was a force against the players. They went at it three times in a row. Both sides claimed victories in the first, second, and third contests. The backup running backs got another long look with Najee Harris still limited, and they all had a good day.
White retired from the National Football League after eight years.
The running back said it was an honor to represent the franchise.
Tom Brady is going to deal with some personal issues.
Brady will be away from the team for a while. Brady will be back after next week's preseason game against the TennesseeTitans, according to Bowles.
N'Keal Harry is going to have ankle surgery.
According to coach Matt Eberflus, Harry will be out for a long time after he had surgery on his ankle.
There is more.
