Tyrod Taylor finds Richie James as Giants take the lead (0:16)

As the Giants take the lead over the Pats, Tyrod Taylor throws a pass in the middle of the field. There is a time and a place.

10:44 PM ET

The first full week of the NFL preseason began on Thursday night with the New England and Baltimore games.

A last-second field goal lifted the Giants to a 23-21 win in first-year head coach Brian Daboll's preseason debut with the team. Mac Jones was not used for the New England team.

In Baltimore, Lamar Jackson didn't see the field on Thursday, but Tyler Huntley was sharp in a 23-10 Ravens victory that also saw the start of a new quarterback for Tennessee.

The Week 1 preseason schedule includes games from Thursday night.

NFL preseason games on Thursday, Aug. 11

New York Giants 23, New England Patriots 21

After an up- and-down start to training camp, the Giants' offense needed this. If not for a bad third-down drop by Kenny Golladay, Daniel Jones and the starting offense would have reached the end zone. Jones ran for another first down after completing 6 of 10 passes. Even though backup quarterback Tyrod Taylor went 13-of-21 passing for 129 yards with a touchdown toss, it should take the pressure off him. With another month to go before the regular-season opener in Tennessee, the Giants' offense and their quarterbacks showed signs that they are headed in the right direction, and there is no need to make any hasty moves or panic.

The next game is against the Cincinnati Reds. On Sunday, August 21st.

On a night when most of the team's starters didn't play, it was a chance to focus on the sideline and get a feel for the coaching staff. Senior football advisor/OL coach MattPatricia called the plays for the first three series when Brian Hoyer was at quarterback, and then it appeared that offensive assistant/QBs coach Joe Judge was calling the plays. It was notable to see Judge perform some of the duties in the preseason opener, even though it was obvious that the primary play caller wasPatricia.

It would be a good chance for us to do that. We are in a process.

"Don't worry about that, who will call the plays during the regular season?" said the coach. We're going to work it out.

The next game is against the panthers.

Baltimore Ravens 23, Tennessee Titans 10

Tyler Huntley is one of the top backups in the NFL. In the preseason opener, Huntley completed 88.9% of his passes and put in a great touch on his 14-yard touchdown pass. He ran a physical 14-yard run to convert a fourth down. The Ravens know they can still compete with Huntley even though Lamar Jackson didn't play. The Ravens won their 21st game in a row. It shows the culture that we're a winning team. The Ravens are going to fight to get a win.

The next game is at the Cardinal's. On Sunday, August 21st.

With this surprise start against the Ravens, theTitans got a live look at a young man. He played into the third quarter and completed 6 of his 11 passes. He threw a 48 yard play-action pass to Racey McMath. He showed that he can make big plays with the ball when he ran for a touchdown. When it was clear that he needed to speed up his process, it was obvious that he needed to hold on to the football. Even though he was the starter, he is listed as the third quarterback behind Tannehill and Woodside. He will have a chance to improve on his performance in the second preseason game next week.

The next game is against the Bucs. On Saturday, August 20th.
