Robertson, a former police officer, was sentenced to more than seven years in prison for his role in the attack on the Capitol. One of the first jury trials linked to the pro- Trump mob's violent attempt to prevent the certification of President Joe Biden's electoral victory took place after his punishment.
Robertson's sentence is the same as the 87-month prison term ordered for Guy Reffitt, who was the first Capitol rioter convicted at trial.
Robertson was sentenced four months after a jury found him guilty of all six charges he faced. He was accused of using a wooden stick as a baton to block police officers from responding to the attack.
Jacob Fracker, a former police officer, testified that he accompanied Robertson to the Capitol on January 6 after attending a pro-Trump rally. Fracker described Robertson as his mentor in the police force. The two people who were fired for their involvement in the Capitol attack referred to each other by their nickname.
Fracker admitted to conspiring to obstruct the joint session of Congress that gathered on January 6 to certify the 2020 election results as part of his plea deal.
According to prosecutors, Fracker's cooperation was so extensive that he should be spared prison time and instead be ordered to serve six months of supervised release. August 16th is when Fracker will be sentenced.
Robertson's sentence was less than the eight-year prison term federal prosecutors had recommended. The longest prison term handed down to date in a case related to January 6 was eight years.
In Reffitt's case, prosecutors recommended that he be sentenced to 15 years in prison. Friedrich rejected the argument that Reffitt's conduct was domestic terrorism.
Reffitt faced down with police as he led fellow rioters up the steps to the Capitol, and prosecutors said he was a significant on-the-ground leader for the pro- Trump group. Reffitt was alarmed when the FBI began to arrest Capitol rioters and told his children that they would be traitors if they turned him in.
The children of Reffitt said that former President Donald Trump should face harsher punishment for his role in the events of January 6.
