The Celtics would like to have Kevin Durant back.

Boston is trying to get the 12-time All-Star.

The Celtics aren't making Robert Williams III available in trade talks with the Nets, according to Kurt Helin.

The Nets rejected a package that included Jaylen Brown, who has been seen as the centerpiece of any trade, as well as a draft pick.

The Celtics are less inclined to include Smart along with multiple other player assets or pick assets according to Charania.

While Brown is likely the best player available to Brooklyn, the Nets have their eyes on starrier role players than White and more future draft picks.

While Brown is the best centerpiece Brooklyn can expect in any trade, the Nets clearly have their eyes on star rolerier players than White.

The Celtics' world-beating defense was anchored by Williams and Smart. Smart became the first guard to win the award since Gary Payton in 1995-96, while Williams took a leap as an interior menace with the ability to switch on pick- and-rolls.

The Celtics defense allowed 3.7 points more points per 100 possessions with Williams on the bench and 1.5 points more with Smart on the floor. When Williams missed time in the playoffs, the Celtics needed seven games to defeat Milwaukee and Miami.

It's understandable that the Celtics wouldn't part with Williams or Smart, they're arguably the Eastern Conference favorite even without Durant.

It isn't really realistic. Being an All- NBA player has never been a goal of Brown's. He's been in the business for six years and may have ended up as good but not great. Even as he approaches his 34th birthday, Durant is a once-in-a- generation talent.

The Celtics will likely have to include either Smart or Williams at some point in order to pull off the blockbuster.
