According to the poll, conducted among 24,000 people in 19 countries including Canada, Singapore, Sweden, and the U.S., the partisan gap over the importance of getting vaccine against Covid-19 was the largest.

Liberal Americans were more likely than conservatives to say getting a vaccine is important to being a good member of society.

The poll found that Americans were most likely to say that the outbreak has divided the nation and left it more united than before.

The Netherlands and Germany both reported high rates of division, as well as Italy, Belgium, and Japan, which all reported split views.

The U.S. stood alone in a rare moment of political unity, as it was the only country where a majority of governing party supporters said the country's political weaknesses were exposed.

42% of Democrat and Democrat-leaning independents think that the country's handling of the Pandemic demonstrates the strengths of the political system, compared with 18% of Republican and Republican-leaning independents.

In the U.S., the issue of vaccine is politicized. The political left has been more likely to embrace the shots than the Republicans have been. Some countries with left-right splits have differing attitudes towards vaccines. In South Korea, Canada, Italy, Israel, Spain, the Netherlands and Germany, the same partisan divides were found. Those on the political right in Hungary, Poland, France and Greece were more likely to say vaccinations are important for being a good citizen.

Key Background
