The boss of the budget airline said that one euro and 10 euro fares wouldn't be seen for a number of years because of soaring fuel prices.

In an interview with the Today programme, Michael O'Leary said he expected the average fare to rise by 10 euros over the next five years.

He said that there will not be cheap promotional fares at the lower end of the market for a long time.

Although the soaring fuel prices which are impacting the airline's fares are alsowreaking havoc on people's disposable incomes, Mr O'Leary is confident the number of customers will remain steady.

He thinks travellers will flock to cheaper alternatives.

He thinks people will keep flying frequently.

I believe that people will trade down in their millions as they become price sensitive.
