There will be two events later this week, one of which will be a super moon.

The shower will peak on Thursday night into the early hours of Friday, though it has been active for weeks with stargazers spotting it as early as late July.

The peak of the weather will coincide with a full super moon. According to NASA, the number of shooting stars will be reduced to 10 to 20 per hour when the moon rises as the sun sets.

The last two super moons of the trilogy were in June and July. The regular moon will not be seen again until July 23, 2023.

"Despite the full moon in the sky during the night of maximum activity, meteor rates will still be better than 85% of all other nights this year," the AMS stated. The more stars you can see the better. No matter the time of night, the stars can be seen.

If you can't see the moon, you should look at darker areas of the sky.

The fact that it peaks in late summer is one of the reasons why people anticipate the Perseid. The summer nights have a better chance of being cloud-free than the winter and spring nights.

Most of the West Coast, the central Plains and around the Great Lakes are predicted to have good weather for watching the super moon.

The temperature in Detroit is expected to top out at 81 degrees on Thursday. The temperature is expected to drop to 57 degrees during the evening.

The next moderate shower won't happen until late October. One of the best meteor showers in the fall is the mid-autumn Orionid.
