The total number of Disney+ subscribers rose to 152.1 million during the third quarter, the company reported on Wednesday. The service added more subscribers than expected.
The company has lowered its forecast for Disney+ to 215 million to 241 million subscribers. Disney had previously set its Disney+ subscriber guidance at 260 million by the end of fiscal 2024 but is now lowering this guidance by 15 million on both the low and high end
At the end of the quarter, there were over 50 million subscribers to the two channels. Disney has 221.1 million subscribers in total, which means that the company's streaming services are now more popular than the company's entire subscriber base. The company lost almost 970,000 subscribers in the third quarter.
Disney CEO Bob Chapek said during the company's earning call that the company had an excellent quarter.
Outside of the US and Canada, Disney+ grew by 100,000 subscribers to reach 44.5 million. International Disney+ subscribers increased by 6 million. Disney+ Hotstar, which is available in India and Southeast Asia, added millions of subscribers.
The price of the ad-free Disney+ subscription in the United States is going to go up from the current price of $7.99. The ad-supported plan will be priced at $7.99 per month.
