Most of the $2 billion investment will be spent on reconfiguring existing aircraft, according to the announcement. Premium economy will be installed on a lot of planes, but don't expect major changes to first and business class.
The new premium economy cabin was unveiled at the beginning of the year. This first appeared on new A380s, but only six of them have these cabins, and no more A380s have been ordered. The premium economy product was sold on flights to London and New York as of August 2022.
The original plan was for premium economy to debut on the Boeing 777-9, but that has now been delayed for five years. The cabin won't gain traction if it's on just six planes.
Premium economy is going to be installed on 120 existing aircraft, including six A380s. The planes will be roughly the same split between the two. The process of reconfiguring these planes will take 18 months, but is only expected to begin at the end of 2022.
We can expect:
The premium economy seats of the airline have 40′′ of pitch and are 19.5′′ wide. The seats have a footrest and a television. Enhanced service in premium economy is between what you would expect in economy and business class.
The introduction of premium economy is going to be the biggest change. The cabins on these planes are going to be refurbished.
New seats, panelling, flooring and other cabin features will be included in the retrofit. It is definitely better than nothing.
The business class product of the airline is not very good. It shouldn't be a long haul business class product on a top airline that doesn't have direct aisle access.
That is what we know at this point. It is possible that Emirates is trying to undersell and overdeliver in order to get a surprise. Tim Clark said that premium economy would be installed on more jets.
“We are also considering a brand new Business Class product. More details will be revealed in due course.”
The A380 has a business class product with direct aisle access that is similar to the one on the 777. I don't think that's happening because nothing further has been revealed Maybe we will be surprised, and the airline just isn't ready to give any more information.
In other cabins, finishes will mostly be changed to reflect the updated motifs of the airline. The 1990s Las Vegas theme that the airline is known for is no longer used today.
Sometimes, it's strange to be a passenger on the airlines. The carrier in the Middle East has been innovative in many ways, but at times it is slow and uncompetitive. Premium economy is going to be introduced on 120 planes.
It's disappointing that the new first class product won't be installed on more planes by the airline. Only nine planes have these new cabins five years after they were introduced.
Most of the 777s in the fleet have business class seats, despite the fact that it is the most important part of the fleet. Updating these planes without installing a more competitive business class is not easy.
The popular bar and shower are included in the A380 halo effect. I don't know if I can blame the airline. A friend of mine flew business class on the airline and she said it was better than any other class she had flown before. I'm confused as well.
Premium economy will be installed on 120 aircraft, including a mix of A380s and Boeings. The project is expected to be finished in 2024.
We can expect some changes to other cabins as well, though we don't know if we'll see a new first class or a new business class. Maybe it's a surprise for the airline.
What do you think about the plan by the airline?
