The new No. 9 is expected to be quicker than the old one.
Matthew Stafford's old Detroit number is now being used by Lions receiver Jameson Williams. He posted a picture of the uniform on his social media accounts.
Williams wanted a single-digit number instead of flipping it to honor Calvin Johnson. A source says that he reached out to Stafford on his own.
The source said that Stafford didn't have any problems. The quarterback who won the Super Bowl with the Los Angeles Rams wore the number 9 for a decade in Detroit.
Williams tore his knee in the national championship game for Alabama, so there is no timetable for his return. A football has been present in the hand of the rookies during training camp. The Lions don't want him to come back too quickly.
"We want to get him out there as fast as possible, and is it crucial?" Campbell asked during minicamp. It's important, but not until he's strong. A lot of strength development is needed in that body. We don't want to put him out there until he can protect his knee and compete at a high level.
